AbstractsAn Adaptation Strategy for Eastern OntarioPhilippe Crabbé1, K. Gajewski, M. Robin, D. Lean, R. Droste, R. Narbaitz, D. Krewski, and R. Needham Climate Change Impacts in Eastern Ontario are expected to be relatively mild over this century according to published assessments and according to historical analogue scenarios. Actually, Eastern Ontario Agriculture may benefit from climate change. These benefits are in line with the US economic literature on climate change (e.g. Mendelsohn). This does not mean that adaptation measures are not required at the regional level. First of all, there is anecdotal evidence that anticipative adaptation is more cost-effective than reactive adaptation. Second, though there does not seem to be any major regional water scarcity pending, there may be localized ones. The main aim of this paper is to develop a comprehensive but evolving adaptation strategy for Eastern Ontario. Its second aim is to develop a template for municipal adaptation to climate change for smaller municipalities. The paper builds on a previous study, which was focused on water resources related-infrastructures and on the latter's recommendations.
