AbstractsFacing Future Climate: Adaptation in British ColumbiaJenny Fraser Adaptation to climate change is an emerging activity for governments worldwide, with many aspects yet to be explored. One of the great challenges to decision-makers is how to use information about climate change impacts to make real adaptation decisions on the ground. British Columbia faces a broad range of climate-related impacts as a consequence of its complex geography. The provincial response to climate change recognizes a dual role for government as a facilitator and adaptor. Government can promote development of the tools, knowledge, and skills required for adaptation. It can also identify the risks that climate change poses to various public goods - including public safety and natural resources - and manage these risks, or any emerging opportunities. Government is working with many partners to build its capacity to deliver in both these roles.
