Barbara MacKinnon

Climate change is expected to increase the incidence of forest fires in Canada. As well, climate change mitigation measures may increase the use of wood stoves for home heating. Both are sources of wood smoke which is well known to cause respiratory and cardiovascular symptoms.

This paper will summarize the discussions at a recent workshop on smoke from both forest fires and wood stoves, including information on health effects of wood smoke and the research recommendations for improved policies to protect human health.
