Industry Activities and Opportunities to Adapt to Climate Change

The adaptive capacity of human systems and economic systems in Canada are generally considered to be high and vulnerability low. Industry is by no means homogenous, however. In the business community, those dependent on climate-sensitive resources such as forestry and fisheries, as well as those that operate in ecosystems such as the high arctic and coastal zones are most vulnerable. For many businesses in contrast, climate change brings opportunities for profit as well as threats. How companies respond to climate change and develop adaptation strategies varies dramatically. This presentation offers an examination of the possible types of adaptive strategies and how these can be viewed as opportunities for industries across Canada. What types of adaptive measures are available and how can these be applied?
